In preparation for summer, Ace Appliance is setting up appointments for our annual “Pre-Season Central Air Start-up Special”.  This special  will run through June 1st.  

This 14 Point Clean & Check can increase your operating efficiency by up to 40%, saving you money on your electric bill.  Our goal is to get your central air unit performing at its best and keep you cool this summer!

14 Point Clean & Check:

  1. Clean condenser with high pressure C02
  2. Check refrigerant charge with gauges
  3. Check superheat of system
  4. Check indoor air filter assembly
  5. Check indoor evaporator  assembly
  6. Check indoor electrical connections
  7. Check indoor blower motor assembly
  8. Oil indoor blower assembly
  9. Oil outdoor blower assembly
  10. Check outdoor electrical connections

Rheem and Ruud Condensing Units named Most Efficient Products

Rheem and Ruud are among the first air conditioning brands on the Energy Star Most Efficient List. Brands featured on this list must undergo an approval process from the Environmental Protection Agency.  Qualifying air conditioners must achieve efficiencies of more than 18 SEER.  The specified criteria also included a need for communications, diagnostics and automated configuration.

JD Power Announces 2011 Appliance Consumer Satisfaction Survey Results

J.D. Power and Associates announced the results for their annual consumer satisfaction survey. The study was based on consumers who purchased major household appliances within the last 24 months. The survey showed that the number of consumers who find energy efficiency to be the top category to consider on the increase in comparison to years past. Appliances were rated in six factors: ease of use, features, performance and reliability, styling and appearance, warranty, and price.  Samsung was the big winner, ranking number one in the washer and clothes dryer categories and second in customer satisfaction with refrigerators.

Cuba lets Citizens buy Inefficient Appliances

In 2003, Cuba banned the sale of energy wasteful appliances in the country. The ban was made in efforts to get Cubans to switch to more energy efficient appliances to decrease the strain on the country’s aging electrical grid. Citizens rejected the new appliances as they were smaller and did not have the same capacity as the older, less efficient models. 

This August, the Cuban Government gave in, allowing citizens to buy less efficient products (mostly from Mexico) stating improvements to the electrical grid as the reason for change.

Toshiba Helps Earthquake and Tsunami Victims

Toshiba Corp has announced that it will help those effected by Northern Japan’s earthquake and tsunami  by supplying power generators and home appliances at the public housing provided by the Japanese government. Each home will then be complete with a photovoltaic system, rechargeable batteries, refrigerators, rice cookers, air conditioners, and LCD lighting. By using the photovoltaic systems with rechargeable batteries in combination with energy-saving appliances, the demands made on the electricity grid by the new households will be greatly reduced.

Bosch Receives Energy Star Award

BSH Home Appliances received an award from the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The Energy Star Sustained Excellence Award was presented in recognition of Bosch’s continued contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by manufacturing water and energy efficient appliances and educating consumers on the benefits of the Energy Star program.

Bosch is the only appliance brand in the United States that is one hundred percent Energy Star qualified.

Bosch Receives Good Housekeeping Seal

Last week, BSH Appliances announced that the Bosch dishwasher line had earned the Good Housekeeping Seal. The seal represents that the dishwashers have passed tests for energy use, efficiency, quiet operation and eco-friendliness. The endorsement from Good Housekeeping also guarantees a two year limited warranty with every purchase of a Bosch dishwasher.  

The endorsement was announced shortly after Bosch earned the 2011 Energy Star Sustained Excellence Award.  This award recognizes products that are innovating appliance efficiency.

New Drawer Dishwashers Divide Delicate and Filthy

Two drawer dishwashers debuting from Turkish manufacturer Arcelik allow delicate glassware to be washed separate from grimy pots and pans. The dishwasher also helps smaller families and singles to save on energy and water bills by only running one drawer when needed.  The dishwasher was debuted in Europe this summer and could soon be offered throughout the United States.

Rayburn Offers Solar-Powered Ranges in Great Britain

Rayburn, a British manufacturer and subsidiary of AGA, now presents a solar electricity option on its in-home cooking/heating/hot water appliance system. Rayburn installs a central boiler heater to accompany their cast-iron cooking ranges (called cookers).  This home energy appliance system provides the home with both heat and hot water.

                Rayburn’s solar electric photovoltaic panels soak up solar energy and create electricity that can be used to run appliances and lighting in the home.  Rayburn appliances can also stock up solar-generated electricity for use at a later time.

Major Appliance Companies Report Their Green Advances

The Appliance Industry Forecast is an annual report that gives professionals working in the appliance industry figures for marketing challenges and opportunities as well as valuable information about consumer buying trends.

According to the report:

                Samsung Electronics is working to better its smart appliance technology. The Company would like to become the biggest global producer of refrigerators by next year.

                LG Electronics plans to use its library of consumer electronics technology to make its appliances more smart grid compatible. The company plans to bring several SmartGrid enabled appliances to the market.  “Smart” features include settings for laundry appliances that give consumers the option to use their appliances at the times when utility rates are minimal. Consumers will also be able to monitor and control appliances outside of the home by using a smartphone, tablet, or PC.

                Already marketed in China, Haier Group plans to bring its Smart Life connected –appliance technology to the United States. Haier has also partnered with Honeywell Inc. to build cooling appliances and solar-powered water heaters using Honeywell’s low-global-warming-potential refrigerants and blowing agents.

                Whirlpool Corporation is focused on receiving the highest return on every unit. The company recently entered into a partnership with Tendril to develop energy-efficient products and solutions. Tendril is an energy-platform developer that will supply the interface that will enable Whirlpool’s next generation major appliances to communicate with the electric SmartGrid.  

                Electrolux is also focusing its efforts on growing their high-margin built-in appliances in increasing their energy and water efficiency.
